Tech that helps you get in shape and lose weight

By Amber Mac
Let’s face it, most of us don’t have a team of make-up artists, hair stylists, and airbrush experts to make us look good.  Instead, we have to whip our butts into shape on our own.  Although it does take a boatload of discipline to exercise on a regular basis, technology can make working out fun.  Here are a few items that can help you stay fit and reach your healthy weight.

Nike+ iPod Sport Kit
WIth a special pair of Nike shoes, an iPod, and an Apple Sport Kit, your exercise routine is well on its way.  The Kit comes with a wireless sensor and a wireless receiver.  When you attach the receiver to your iPod and put the sensor in your Nike+ shoes, you can track your workout time, distance, pace, and calories burned.  After your run or walk, you can take all this info back to your computer so you have a precise record of progress.  Oh, and of course all this also means you can listen to your tunes on the go.  For $39, this Kit is a lot cheaper than hiring a personal trainer.

SCOTTEVEST (SeV) Performance T-Shirt
SeV makes clothing for gadget geeks.  For fitness fans, the Performance T-Shirt is a win.  Available with both long and short sleeves, this shirt comes with three perfectly placed pockets so you can stash away your tech toys while you exercise.  There are also handy loops to keep your MP3 player’s earbuds in place.  The special lightweight fabric offers up easy access to your tunes through the cloth.  The Performance T-Shirt is available is six stylish colours.  The price?  The short-sleeved tee will set you back US$25 and the long-sleeved tee costs US$30.

Withings Wi-Fi Scale
Thanks to offering up more accurate measurements, the digital scale has made it even easier to manage your weight.  However, there is now a scale on the market that takes the high-tech angle one step further.  The Withings Wi-Fi scale is linked to a secure website so you can closely manage your weight online.  With the WiScale app, which is available for free in iTunes, you can also keep track of the scale’s output on your iPhone with some beautifully designed charts.  The Withings Wi-Fi Scale is available online for approximately $200.  Not cheap, but definitely handy for active geeks.
