Last-minute Halloween iPhone apps for better costumes, parties, and activities

Costume Generator ($1.99)

Year after year I struggle to make a decision about what to wear for Halloween.  Truthfully, I often end up wearing the same thing (a retro Go-Go girl outfit, complete with pink wig and knee-high white boots).  However, there is one app that has given me brave new ideas for October 31st.  The Halloween Costume generator lets you easily find a costume to best suit your needs.  After you enter your gender,  type of party, and current mood, and click “Get My Costume” you will be thrilled to find a creative suggestion and detailed instructions to put your costume together.  The last time I used this app it suggested that I dress up as a cavewoman, which is a refreshing change from my 1970s go-to girl.

Scare Tracks ($0.99)
No Halloween would be complete without scary music.  This inexpensive download offers up eight different sounds, but they’re not just any ole effects, but full-length HD tracks (in other words, high-quality sound).  Scare tracks include: alien prison, Ichapod Crane, Msg from Hell, Steam Punk, Torture Screams, Unholy Floor, War Drums, and Zombie Chants.  With scary costumes topping searches on Yahoo! Canada, these haunting tunes will complete your Halloween night.  Also, although these apps are often called iPhone apps, remember, most can also work on any iPod Touch.

Bloodcurdlers: 13 Terrifying Tales for Halloween ($0.99)
There is no better way to get in the mood for Halloween than to get immersed in a “spooktacular” story collection.  This download features a number of mobile books that feature haunting sounds as you read along (you can turn this feature off if you prefer the eerie sound of silence).  Before October 31st, this app includes 13 nighttime stories, including The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Dracula’s Guest, and The Body Snatcher.  What’s really cool about these tales is that while you’re reading there is realistic page-turning animation, making the experience as close to reading a print book as possible, and the app also remembers where you left off (just in case you get too scared and have to take a calming break).  Please keep in mind, these stories might be too spooky for little children (but perfect for young adults and Halloween-loving parents).
