Frederick Wood of Seattle was yesterday sentenced to three years in prison for using peer-to-peer file-sharing service LimeWire to steal identities. He'd use the stolen information to buy items which he later sold on Craigslist.
Wood said he used LimeWire to search the hard drives of others, searching accounts, tax returns, and college application information. Police found data of more than 120 people on his hard drive.
He was only caught because he switched boxes on a laptop he'd arranged to sell face-to-face, substituting a book and a vase.
